Podcasts & Books That Will Help Incorporate Self-Care and Reflection During Your Busy Days
When work, school, and responsibilities pile up is when you need support the most! That’s why I have created a list of podcasts and books that can be incorporated in your day as a small yet effective and powerful tool for you and your mind. They have helped me through many days and nights of heavy workload, studying, stress, and burnout! It was always my peace and mindfulness in midst of the chaos. I hope these bring you support like they did me!
Podcasts to Carry With You (when driving place to place, walks, or breaks, or whenever you need 5 minutes of mindfulness!)
1. "The Let Them Theory" by Mel Robbins
This episode within Mel Robbins podcast can be so helpful! Listen if you need to focus in on letting go of what you can not control in your day to day life to relieve stress, and need help honing in and flourishing where you can.
2. "The Happy Mind Podcast" by Andy Cope
Listen when you're in need of some positive reinforcement, focusing in and learning about mental resilience, and psychological/evidence bases tips and tricks. These are great if you only have a small window of time, but need a 5-10 minute reset. They are usually less than 20 minutes!
3. "Therapy Chat" with Laura Reagan, LCS
Listen if you need to dive deep into mental health topics, therapy techniques, and inner work. It offers depth when you have the time and mental space.
4. “The Mindful Kind” with Rachael Kable
Listen if you are in need of some mindfulness practices, simple habits, and self-compassion. It is gentle and great when you need a reminder to slow down. It reminds me of a good listen possibly before journal reflection or meditation!
Books You’ll Want on Your Shelf
1. Atomic Habits by James Clear
A great read when you need a clear and helpful tools for building realistic, long term, sustainable, and easily incorporated small habits to create step by step into your days. It is awesome at showing you that when your days are jam-packed, that even at the smallest scale, change matters and can cause a drastic impact.
2. The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown
Reading this can really shine light on being vulnerable, your worthiness, and learning self acceptance. It gives a great reminder on days that you don't feel enough but need to be reminded.
3. How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell
This is a great book, and gives great advice for reclaiming your time and attention. It can really help you realize how much your day is controlled by screens and noise, and how to reclaim your voice, and your surroundings.
4. The Anxiety Skills Workbook by Stefan G. Hofmann & Alice T. Boyes
Great Exercises, worksheets, and evidence-based techniques for dealing with anxiety. I love it because it doesn't just talk about different types of stress and anxiety, but gives you tools to help you though it.
You don’t have to read every book I listed or finish every podcast to benefit. Even one powerful and useful podcast and book that suits and fits what you are needing the most can really help. In a chaotic filled day, you can prioritize quality over quantity. Choose filling your breaks, or 5 minutes you have how you see fit and what you need, don't overwhelm yourself and use these as something you need to get done, but something you get and want to. Let yourself slow down, reflect, focus, grow, and learn balance.
If you try any of these, let me know which one moved you the most!
